Well,
it's been five years in the making but finally it's here -- Bulletproof Issue
1. Featuring contributions from more than 20 UK comics creators -- professionals
and newcomers alike -- this brand new 80 page anthology from Editor-in-chief
Matt Yeo displays an eclectic range of tales; sci-fi, fantasy, superhero,
action, adventure, hardboiled detective drama. This one has it all.
Serving as a worthy extension to Bulletproof comics website (www.bulletproofcomics.co.uk)
the anthology's goal is simple: to promote both existing UK comic
talent and established industry pros. Inside you'll find the
likes of Alan Grant, Steve Yeowell, Nigel Dobbyn, Kit Wallis, Klaus Belarski... the
list goes on. But, you may ask, are the strips any good? Fortunately -- yes
they are.
Occultus by Nigel Kitching and David Hankin sets the scene for an epic battle between good and evil, using a clean art style that would look right at home in Warhammer Monthly comic.
Mark Daniels 'Mumble and Beep' charts the comical adventures of two hapless intergalactic ice cream salesmen, in a fun and lively cartoon manner.
Alan Grant and Alan Burrows 'Funguys' strip sheds new light on what really went on at the Last Supper.
If you didn't catch 'Out Of The Box' by Chris Bunting and Kit Wallis when it was recently printed in Judge Dredd: The Megazine, you're fortunate enough to have another chance. As well as being a well told tale of double dealing treachery in the competitive world of boxing, Kit Wallis' Art style stands out from the crowd, being rather reminiscent of the work of Production I.G. - the Manga studio responsible for the animation sequence in Kill Bill.
The majority of the artwork contained within the anthology is of a similarly high standard, and although some stories are weaker than others this is mostly due to the writers taking time to set the scene for a bigger tale to come. With a second issue of Bulletproof being planned, and several one shots and mini-series on the cards (including a four issue mini-series for the brilliantly quirky costumed vigilante 'Redstitch' from Lee Langford and Klaus Belarski, as previewed in Bulletproof 1) this should give the UK's top creators more than enough room to play with.
With a cover price of £2.50, the Bulletproof anthology is an absolute bargain that you really cannot afford to miss!
The comic can be previewed at www.bulletproofcomics.co.uk/bpcpreview.htm If you're interested in contributing to the website, upcoming anthology, or in buying a copy of Issue 1 then contact mattyeo@mac.com
