MAJOR TEMPLETON In overall command of the military contingent on the ARMSTRONG, he's very good at his job but nearing retirement age and is passing his wisdom on to KATE, his Number Two, who he treats like a daughter.
	CAPTAIN KATHERINE BLAKE - "KATE" Military-trained but with a background in academia, Katherine Blake is initially the Number Two in the Armstrong's XO crew, the four-person exploration team tasked with establishing first contact with what remains of the Earth's population.
	GABRIEL BISHOP - "GABE" Non military. Specialises in medical matters and archaeology. Gabe is a good 15 years older than Kate but there is a definite spark between them although both would deny this absolutely.
	SYDNEY PATTERSON aka "SYD" Brilliant - and he knows it - and sarcastic but still endearing. Of Japanese ancestry, Syd would be at home in Gibson's cyberpunk stories, linked to an array of computers via his adapted spectacles and a wristband modem/communicator which also allows him to hack into external computer systems. If it's a machine he can fix it. If it's a woman, he'll try to chat her up. Not a fan of Kate (who has rebuffed his advances on many occassions) or Gabe -- but he's not a fighter so he knows he has to rely on them to protect his ass.
CAPTAIN CHARLES BRYANT In overall command of the Armstrong.
	COMMANDER BEN FOSTER Bryant's right habnd man - but with very much a mind of his own if required.
