Given the US-centric nature of many comics sites
this is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking information on European
comics creators, although US talent also features.
Lambiek is Europe's first comics shop, and the finest of Holland. Founded in
1968, the name is derived from a popular Willy Vandersteen character, and now
it's probably the oldest comics shop in the world. As publisher and editor of
two comic encyclopedias and other related books, it's widely recognized for our
expertise on all matters concerning comics and sequential art.

• The Comic Creators Guild

The Comics Creators Guild exists to promote the interests
of professionals working within this field, and to increase public awareness
of the comic strip medium. Its principal aim is to demonstrate that comic strips
are a valuable art form, as well as a powerful and versatile communication medium,
equally effective within the spheres of entertainment, education, and marketing.
The Guild is run by comics professionals and its aims are - and always will be
- to represent the interests of comics professionals, those intent on pursuing
careers in the industry, or those working with the art form. The Guild seeks
to establish better lines of communication between editors, publishers and creators,
leading to a cohesive effort to improve working conditions and to raise the public’s
awareness of the medium. The Guild seeks to promote the creation of comics in
all forms and always to foster a spirit of professionalism and excellence in
the medium.
• Comics in the National
Art Library
Link: http://www.nal.vam.ac.uk/nalcomic.html
Until the mid-1980s, the National Art Library's coverage of
comics and comic art was uneven and spasmodic. In the 19th century, illustrated
books and children's books were actively collected (as they are today) and some
of the classic precursors of 20th century comics found their way into the collections:
books such as Rodolphe Töpffer's L'histoire véritable de Monsieur
Crépin (Paris, 1837), Adolf Schrödter's Herrn Piepmeyer (Frankfurt,
1848), several 19th century editions of Heinrich Hoffmann's Struwwelpeter and
Wilhelm Busch's Max und Moritz. Individual items continued to be acquired in
the 20th century, but the Library's holdings have been significantly enhanced
by the acquisition of a number of major collections in recent years.
• The
Political Cartoon
Society
Link: www.politicalcartoon.co.uk
The
aim of this site is
to promote the 'political cartoon by way of amusing,
informing and educating.
Cartooning in Britain
has an unrivalled
heritage going back over many hundreds
of years. From Hogarth through Gillray via
Will Dyson Low and Vicky to the present
day, cartoonists have
had a major impact on readers. The corrupt
New York politician
Boss Tweed famously
blamed Nast's "damned pictures" for his decline. Low’s Blimp, Vicky’s
drawing of Alec Douglas-Home,
Bell's Major with underpants have created
images that burned in the mind. Today
there are more political
cartoonists employed by British newspapers
and periodicals than
ever before.
The Political Cartoon Society will mine this rich vein of visual history both through our quarterly newsletter as well as organising exhibitions of original cartoon art based on political and historical themes.

Today, the NCS membership roster includes over 600 of the world's major cartoonists, working in many branches of the profession, including: comic strips; comic books; comic panels; editorial cartoons; animation; gag cartoons; greeting cards; advertising; humorous magazine and book illustration; sports cartoons; and more.

THE
PHILIPPINES
• The
Phillippine Cartoon Art Museum
Much of the artwork on this incredible site has not seen the
light of day for decades, and in most cases have never
been reprinted since they were first published.
Ever since comics artist Gerry
Alaguilan came
online in 1997, he has come to realize that a lot of
Filipinos, especially young artists reading comics
and trying to enter comics as a career, are not familiar
with the great Filipino Komiks Masters of yesteryear.
"I myself have since learned about many artists I never
knew before who were all quite talented and had impressive
bodies of work," he writes on this incredible site.
"As I rediscovered page after page of these artworks,
I became much more in awe of the talent of these Filipinos,
and I felt stricken that such artworks are virtually
unknown today.
Gerry has spent a small fortune acquiring old komiks
and original artwork from the 1940's up the present
to present on this web site. "Lack of finances put
a pause on my acquisitions, but I will still continue
with it when I have the means," he says. "I presently
have a small collection of some 100 original artworks
and 300+old komiks, mostly from the 50's and the 60's.
I will gradually put up this material online with a
substantial update to this online museum once a week."
